About Donald S. Levy M.D.

Hello and welcome to my practice. My name is Donald S. Levy M.D. and I have been practicing medicine in the city of Orange, California since 1988. I specialize in treating patients with allergic diseases such as asthma, hay fever, hives, eczema, insect stings, drug allergy, food allergy, eosinophilic esophagitis, angioedema, and anaphylaxis.

I first became interested in allergies when I was a boy growing up in Queens, NY, because I had severe hay fever and eye allergy. My mother, sister, and brother also were allergy sufferers. I went through the process of allergy testing and allergy immunotherapy (shots!) when I was in high school, so I also have experience as an allergy patient.

I was accepted into a 7-year BA-MD program when I graduated from high school in 1976. I attended Brooklyn College for my pre-medical studies for 3 years, and then went to the State University of NY, Downstate Medical Center for my medical degree. While I was in college, I did research investigating the immunologic aspects of hemophilia. This research, as well as my having been an allergy sufferer, helped me to choose Allergy and Clinical Immunology as a career.

After graduating from medical school in 1983, I stayed on at Downstate Medical Center and did a 3-year Residency in Pediatrics, which I completed in 1986. I then moved to the West Coast, and did a 2-year Fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. As part of my training I spent time at the West Los Angeles VA Hospital to get experience in treating adult patients. As a Board Certified Allergist and Immunologist, I am trained to treat allergic and immunologic diseases in both adults and children.

In addition to my private practice, I am on Faculty at U.C. Irvine Medical Center. I hold the title of Health Sciences Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Division of Immunology and Allergy. I enjoy teaching very much, and I find this to be very rewarding. In 2008, I received The Richard L. Day, M.D., Master Teacher Award in Pediatrics. In addition, I keep up-to-date on all the latest treatments and innovations in my field. I have also been actively involved as a principal investigator in clinical research to get new medications approved by the FDA.

Having been in practice for more than 30 years, I have been very fortunate to have developed long-term friendships with my patients and their families, and I feel that we are one big family. I treat my patients the way I would like my own family members to be treated—with respect, caring and compassion. In my practice, patient care and satisfaction are a priority. Welcome!
